10 Month Update

Asher turns 10 months on April 1st, no fooling!

It's been a busy month for him.  He spends most of his time crawling around the house at top speed looking for cupboards to open, pets to chase, toys to scatter, etc!  Needless to say, we spend most of our time chasing after him & doing damage control!

Here are a few of his current favorites.

Favorite Household Chore:
Emptying the Dishwasher

Favorite Sport:
Basketball
Best Buddy:
Rambler

Favorite Toy
The Big Red Ball.  If I walk by it while holding Asher, he complains until I let him down to play with it.

Favorite Part of the Day:
Bathtime

Favorite Meal:
Breakfast of Bananas & Oatmeal.  Sometimes he makes this face if you don't feed it to him fast enough!

Other Facts & Figures:
Number of Teeth:  Still just 1
Bedtime:  7:00
Chris asked me to add that Asher loves it if you blow on his armpits.  I was not aware of that one!

Running to Key West

Back by popular demand, we will be tracking our mileage as we run to Key West!  We really need to focus on sunny Key West after the cold weekend we just had.  Hopefully we won't have any more scenes like this until next December.

Here's the update.

Miles We've Run   Miles to Go
   124                 1049

We've made it just about to Emporia, Virginia, which means we're only a short distance away from the North Carolina border!

I'm planning to really up my weekly mileage soon.  This time I mean it!  Saturday morning I'll be running in the Monument Avenue 10k along with 41,000 other people.  It should be very motivating to be in a sea of runners!

Celebrating Spring

Spring was here.  We were wearing flip flops, eating dinner on the deck, throwing open windows, and even swatting away mosquitoes.  Judging by the cold weekend forecast, spring is going to be leaving us for awhile now.  It's is leaving behind a few reminders that it was here and hopefully will be returning again very soon.

Book Page Bird Mobile

Since Asher has kindly been napping in his crib, I had time to work on some weekend projects, like this bird mobile made out of book pages.
Just find a book you never plan to read again.
Cut out simple bird and wing shapes & glue together to assemble.
Punch a small hole in the top of each bird.  String with some embroidery floss.
Tie onto a branch & your birds are ready!

Here's the room view.  It was so sunny that the birds got a little washed out in the picture.  Not complaining about the sunshine though!

Weekend Update

Our weekend was filled with:
visiting with family & friends
Sunshine
The downtown mall
the park
our backyard
Mr. Monk
At one point both being in the lead in our NCAA bracket pool (I've since plummeted.)
Asher napping in his crib.  Twice.
I won't ask for more than that!

Asher Laughing

Asher's giggle is the happiest little sound I've ever heard.  Sometimes he gets to laughing so hard that no sound even comes out of his mouth!  Here he is getting a good chuckle after dinner the other night.  He's laughing at Chris repeatedly hitting himself in the head with a bag of carrots.  Never a dull moment around here!

Pizza!

Yesterday morning was spent making pizzas with preschoolers on our field trip to Mellow Mushroom.

Everyone made a personal pizza!

We had a blast, and the pizzas turned out great!  It was so very generous of Mellow Mushroom to give us this cool experience and over 45 pizzas free of charge!!

Change of Plans

I had hoped to tell you all about my adventures in pizza-making with preschoolers today, but there's been a change of blogging plans because I can't find my camera anywhere & need it to upload my pictures from today's field trip.  The camera was last seen at home a few hours ago, so hopefully it will turn up tomorrow.  I feel like I have looked everywhere, even including in the fridge, in the bathrooms, in my lunchbag, in the dog food bin, & in the sink.  Hopefully I'll find it and be able to post some new photos tomorrow.

In other news, right now I am listening to Mr. Bread record his newest video.  I won't give away too many details, but let's just say if you're a fan of historical rap videos, you're going to be in for a real treat!!

Family Resemblance

As far as anyone can tell so far, there's not a big family resemblance with Asher looking like either me or Chris.  We hear quite often that he doesn't look a bit like either of us!  It is already apparent though that there's one big way he takes after us both.  He is a little book nerd!  It's a good thing too since we've been talking about reading him all our  favorite children's books (Harry Potter, The Indian in the Cupboard, Stuart Little, Star Wars Jr. etc.) since before he was born.  Here's a video I caught of him yesterday reading his favorite book, Cat.  I think he was getting a little frustrated that he couldn't reach to turn all the pages of the book.

A Cat's Life

Today I spent the day at home with Asher & the animals because Asher has a cold.

Things I discovered:
  • Cats really do sleep 20 hours per day.  These two only awoke for feeding time.  What a life!
  • Every time I open the door to the fridge, Asher will want to play in it.  Every time I close the door, he will scream.
  • He can make it from across the room to the fridge in less than 1 second.
  • Asher thinks it is funny to sit in the dog's water dish.  It is pretty funny actually!
That's all.  I guess it was a pretty quiet day.  Big rain storm coming tonight, so Chris is hoping school will be closed for a flood day tomorrow.

A Weekend

Sunday the rain never stopped.  It was a good day for...

cuddling

 watching the rain fall

and reading every book on your bookshelf.

The sun was shining on Saturday, so we could venture out of the house to meet up with Mom-mom, Pop-pop, and Aunt Mara at the park.

Green Eggs & Ham

Do you like green eggs and ham?
Do you like them in a box or with a fox?
Do you like them in a house or with a mouse?
How about on a boat or with a goat?

I do not like to eat green eggs and ham, but I do like to cook them with the kids at school.
We cooked up a batch of green eggs and ham (and turkey too for the non-pork eaters) this morning.
Some of the kids thought the green eggs were playdoh.  One looked at me with sad, sad eyes and asked why they had to eat playdoh for snack!

Happy birthday to Dr. Seuss by the way.  It's a week-long celebration around here!

Wheee!

Asher tried out the swings at our neighborhood playground yesterday.

The verdict is...he loves it!

We had a feeling he would love swinging because he really has fun when we toss him into the air or bounce him around.  The more vigourous the better!  This better not be a sign that he's going to be a real daredevil!

I wish I had a picture to share of the whole spectacle while Asher was swinging.  Just imagine me & Chris both snapping pictures wildly, shooting videos, and dancing all around while exclaiming about Asher's cuteness.  Also imagine poor Rambler moping due to his walk being interrupted by the stop at the playground.  I imagine it was quite amusing to anyone passing by!

Here's the video!

9 Month Update

How did nine months go so slowly when I was pregnant and anticipating Asher's arrival and so incredibly quickly now that he's here in my life?

Well, here he is at 9 months old, modeling a couple of my favorite hats before it's too warm to wear them!

Likes:  bathtime in the big tub, crawling around the house looking for mommy when she leaves the room, crawling after various pets, being barefoot, napping on mommy's lap, applesauce.

Dislikes:  socks, shoes, napping in his crib

Number of Teeth:  2/3 of a tooth

Stay tuned because tomorrow's post will feature a cute video!  I bet you can guess who will be the star of the video!
